Leona Lewis signs with Island Records!

Leona Lewis is still singing, but no longer with Simon Cowell calling the shots!

The 29 year old singer showing off her amazing, curly hair!

The last I heard from Leona was “Hurt: The EP” & “It’s All For You – EP”

Two really good EP’s by the way!

My favorite song from Hurt was “Colorblind”:

I get chills every time I listen to that song! 🙂

And then on October 12, 2012, Leona released her third studio album:

Leona also released a Christmas album in December 2013, but I guess I don’t pay too much attention to Christmas albums HAHA

Leona is what you could call a “Diva”, but I’m pretty sure that only applies to her being a powerful singer…not a woman with a “holier than thou” attitude! 😀

Leona has incredible news surfacing today…she was just signed to a record deal with Universal Music Group, specifically: Island Records!

In a public statement, Leona said: “After seven incredible years at Sony I feel honored to be given the opportunity to sign to perhaps the most iconic label of all, Island Records. To me Island has always been a label where artists can really flourish and are encouraged to express themselves. Island stands for quality music and signing with such a legendary label is really like a dream come true for me. I can’t wait to start making music with my new team.”

Leona will be in good hands with artists like:

Avicii, Bon Jovi, and up-and-comer: Jake Bugg

Avicii collaborated with Leona for her September 2011 single “Collide”:

My mom sings this song at the top of her lungs when I play it at home! LOL 😀

This comes as a surprise to most since Leona Lewis is one of Simon Cowell’s most noteworthy finds of his career! Leona was found by Simon and his monstrous hit show “The X Factor” during Season 3 in the UK!

Leona had been signed to Simon’s record Label “Syco Music” (an affiliate of Sony Music) and had stayed there for 7 years…up until today!

But don’t think Cowell is crying in a corner…he’s actually happy for LL!

Well said Simon! Cheers to you!!

Leona has broken her “mum’s the word” too with 2 great tweets:

Leona is ready for the next chapter of her career and so are we!!! This next chapter wouldn’t be complete without an incredible, sincere message from the co-president of Island Records: Darcus Beese.

Mr. Beese had this to say about his newest addition to the label: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Leona into the Island family. I’ve watched and admired Miss Lewis from afar, witnessed her grow into one of this country’s most formidable female artists. Witnessed a girl from Hackney making and breaking records, topping the UK and US charts, earning numerous Brit and Grammy nominations, while remaining true to herself and her principles. All the while maintaining a genuine down to earth appeal. Soon as the ink dries, it’s on to the most exciting part of all, getting into the studio and making the record we know Leona has in her.”

😀 Now if that doesn’t excite all my fellow Leona fans, I don’t know what will!!! 😀

As a nod to the incredible Leona, I have to leave you with this:

  1. “Collide” remix: https://soundcloud.com/dj-sean-mac/leona-lewis-collide-bryan-1

Avicii did not collaborate with Leona per se; His label representatives at Ministry of Sound sent the instrumental out to interested singers, with the intent of choosing a vocalist/lyrics from the pool of candidates. “Fade Into Darkness” was selected instead of Leona/Collide, but SyCo was eager to get Leona on the track and rushed out promo to radio stations. A lawsuit was filed to block release of “Collide”. Thankfully, a settlement was reached just prior to being heard by the court.
