Last night was the night of the most unpredictable award show of the year…
…the Video Music Awards!
The VMAs are put on by MTV and are known for shocking the world with antics, unforgettable moments, and performances you’ll be talking with your coworkers about at the water cooler for the whole week!
I’m going to count down my Top 7 moments of the 2014 VMAs for you right now:
1) Iggy Azalea’s red carpet outfit!
Although this may not have happened during the award show itself, I still have to mention it! Iggy Azalea showed up to the VMA’s wearing a Versace gown that was flown in from Milan, broke open because it didn’t fit her, and tailored to fit her body! AH-MAY-ZING!
2) Nicki Minaj’s opening act!
So the show started off with Ariana Grande singing her song “Break Free”. Then directly afterwards Nicki Minaj sang, twerked, danced, and awed the audience with a performance of her new single “Anaconda”. Then directly after Anaconda was over, Jessie J started singing her hit single “Bang Bang” and Nicki Minaj showed up to rap in a new outfit less than 2 minutes after her Anaconda performance! To say I was moved by Nicki Minaj’s performances would be silly, but to say I was impressed is accurate! 😀 Go Nicki Go!

3) Taylor Swift shakes it off
All eyes have been on Taylor Swift lately because of her bold move into Pop music and her new single “Shake It Off” that sparked a positive response from most. Taylor performed her new single and when she was on top of the giant 20 foot tall numbers “1989” (in honor of her new album’s title) she got everyone’s attention when she said something to the effect of: “I’m not jumping off this thing! All these snakes biting people! It’s dangerous!” HAHA So she ran down the stairs to get down to the stage and continued on with the song! 🙂 It was clever & hilarious and let me just mention that the anaconda that bit one of Nicki’s backup dancers on Friday did not make an appearance on the real show! #ThankGoodness
4) Sam Smith performs “Stay With Me”
Everyone’s favorite soul singer of the year, Sam Smith, was in tow to perform his worldwide hit song “Stay With Me”. We had shots of Jennifer Lopez and the Kardashians rocking out in the audience, but my favorite part was when my mom called me to say “He’s amazing! He has such a beautiful falsetto!” 🙂 The world is in awe of Sam and rightfully so! He’s so talented and might I say…our answer to a male version of Adele!
5) Robin Williams tribute
Robin Williams was given a tribute along with a beautiful song…Coldplay’s “A Sky Full Of Stars”. That’s my new favorite song and it has such a beautiful message. There was nobody to announce the tribute…it was just a quick montage of photos of one of the world’s favorite comedians of all-time. Rest in peace Robin and well done, MTV.

6) Iggy Azalea performs Black Widow with Rita Ora
Iggy performed her new single “Black Widow” with Rita Ora and so many dancers dressed like black widow spiders! Iggy was really impressive like I know her to be and I enjoyed watching Taylor Swift and Lorde geek out singing the chorus together 🙂 Meanwhile, Iggy & Rita had the most fabulous outfits that were made to look as if they were wearing spiderwebs! Gwen Stefani would approve (yes that’s a No Doubt reference) #Spiderwebs
7) Beyoncé confuses us and shows us how egocentric she is
Beyoncé was given the largest performance time of the night and she decided to start off with slow songs that were very indulgent. She then moved onto “Drunk In Love” (without Jay Z) which was all anyone wanted to hear from her latest album anyways! Then she did a crazy chair dance and moved into “Partition”. The rest of the performance was so self indulgent I couldn’t even believe it. I would have rather heard a collection of her hits and to be honest…her performance was way too sleazy for a mother to perform. #RealTalk
Until next year…let me know what you thought of the 2014 VMA’s!
