Radio consultant causes a stir on Music Row!

I decided that it wouldn’t be proper if Music Row Girl didn’t say anything…

…about the radio consultant’s comments this week!

So there was a very, very blatant shot taken at women in country music this week and I have to tell you what was said and what I think about it.

Keith Hill, a radio consultant, said the following in an interview with Country Aircheck: “If you want to make ratings in country radio, take females out. The reason is mainstream country radio generates more quarter hours from female listeners at the rate of 70 to 75 percent, and women like male artists.”

Oh, and that’s only the beginning! He continues…

“The expectation is we’re principally a male format with a smaller female component. I’ve got about 40 music databases in front of me, and the percentage of females in the one with the most is 19 percent. Trust me, I play great female records, and we’ve got some right now; they’re just not the lettuce in our salad. The lettuce is Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and artists like that. The tomatoes of our salad are the females.”

Hurtful? I would say: YES! I think it was a bold thing of him to say, but the way he went about it was senseless. If you’re going to say that men provide for the majority of listening activity on country radio, I wouldn’t take a shot at the women in country at the same time.

Keith also thinks that two songs by females shouldn’t be played consecutively on country radio, by the way!

Numbers are numbers and data is data, but why cut out females on country radio? I feel like that would offend more people than it would please! Without a doubt!!!

The noise on Music Row has of course been a rebuttal from both people in the radio industry and females in country music!

A fellow radio consultant, Jaye Albright said on Facebook, “He is simply wrong. You could make a case that males sometimes don’t relate to specific songs put out by women and that does cause more releases by men to do better on average what the typical female hit does but I have never seen any evidence that women do not like songs by females!”

I really like Jaye’s perspective and quite honestly, I’ve been thinking the same thing! Who’s to say that women don’t like music from country divas?!

The senior vice president of CMT, Leslie Fram said: “I can tell you that working and programming radio for over 20 years, this is simply not true. Top 40 is primarily a female format and the majority of artists on their chart are women. This posting is taking us 20 steps backwards. It’s an insult to every female artist in the format.”

I like Leslie’s perspective because her data is absolutely accurate since she has seen the radio industry (unbiased) for over 20 years!

Country diva, Jennifer Nettles took to Twitter with:

Screen Shot 2015-05-31 at 7.33.13 PM

That hashtag is hilarious!

A seasoned veteran of country music, Martina McBride said: “I was taken aback by the comments in the article. I felt them to be sexist and condescending toward female artists. But putting all that aside, the response from my followers on Facebook and Twitter has been overwhelmingly full of comments that disagree wholeheartedly with what was said in the article and how they, as the core audience, feel misrepresented.”

I love how kind she was about it! Thanks Martina!

I think the ladies have it! Keith was out of line and it was really inappropriate of him to say those things. Women in country music are lettuce too 😉

Congrats ladies for sticking up for what’s right! I love yah!

Robin Thicke is working on a new album!

The last I heard about Robin, he was paying Marvin Gaye millions in court…

…but now he’s resurfacing & making a brand new album!

I will go on the record and say that I’m a HUGE Robin Thicke fan and recently I’ve been listening to him soooooo much! I don’t know what it is about him lately, but once I start playing his music…I can’t turn it off! It’s sensational, full of soul, funk, and it’s fun! Fun to sing to & listen to! I can’t say enough good things about it or about him for that matter.

So in the vein of saying good things, Robin has been featured on a brand new summer jam, “I Don’t Like It, I Love It” by Flo Rida! Yes there is a famous rapper who took the name of a state, cut it in half, and created his stage name! I approve of it and I’m even from Florida! LOL

Check out that groovy summer song here:

That’s a funky little number and I really like it! Wait! What I meant to say was: I don’t like it, I love it! 😉

Robin has been keeping a low profile ever since the release of his album Paula in 2014. People were not happy about his album that became the tribute to his wife he was currently divorcing from, Paula Patton. I LOVE the album! I’ve gone on record saying that once and I will again! If you really give that album a chance, you’ll love it just like I do!

Screen Shot 2015-05-30 at 10.14.55 PMIf I heard this album, I’d stay with him! Seriously!!!

Mr. Thicke will be performing at Renaissance’s Downtown Chicago Happiest Hour block party on June 11th!

And in an interview with Billboard, he said: “Can’t play the new jams just yet but new album is almost finished.”

Almost! YAY! I can’t wait to see what Robin has up his sleeve for his new album! I’ve absolutely loved all the other ones and I think he’s so very talented. He’s a true crooner and a very romantic guy!

Congrats Robin on getting back to the music & I can’t wait to hear it!

Hilary Duff is back with ‘Sparks’!

Remember Hilary Duff? You know! Lizzie McGuire? Well yesterday…

…she released a music video for her brand new single “Sparks”!

I really like the song! I’m not going to lie! HAHA Hilary has that Britney Spears bubblegum pop-vibe and sometimes you have to have those songs in your head for fun 😀

Hils has been MIA in the music world for a little while, but now she’s resurfacing because she’s been using Tinder. Yes. Tinder.

2vyc0qbpd1yh0rifvyt9bmznqorst8zjye3osciy5g6fuwdi9vbc1d56xhplc17xA crazy dating app that is taking the world by storm!

I say “crazy” because as an avid listener of Loveline with Dr. Drew & Mike Catherwood, they have had “Tinder Tales” on their radio show/podcast that have made me laugh so hard! You would be amazed at how “crazy” Tinder really is and turns out to be!

To listen to Loveline, go here: []

Call me crazy (I’ve said that word way too much already) but I think it’s a little ridiculous that someone with a career in the entertainment business would need to use Tinder to find a boyfriend/girlfriend. I mean…you’re Hilary Duff! What kind of help does she really need in the love department?! Can’t her friend set her up with someone they know? A potential suitor?

It’s been a while since I’ve heard of Miss Duff associated with music, but now she’s kind of branded herself as the Queen of Tinder.

Check out her Tinder profile!

Screen Shot 2015-05-29 at 8.25.28 AM

I can’t believe this! LOL

Check out her Tinder Talk in the first video for “Sparks”:

She wants to go on blind dates…okaaaayyy! hahaha

HDuff released that video on two Thursdays ago (May 14th) just to tease her throngs of fans about her Tinder usage, for good measure.

I get my Cosmopolitan every month & recently the cover looked like this:

You go girl!

So then yesterday the full (non-Tinder) version of “Sparks” was released:

The song is catchy and cool! I dig it and her hair is bold! I love the cotton candy look and I’ve been thinking of going for that look for years haha A much less overall color look, but still: lavender would be my top choice.

Congrats to Hilary on your new song/video & good luck on Tinder!

Paul Cardall creates music to heal hearts!

Sometimes I’m not all about the famous people that everyone knows…

…and today I found an interesting story about the pianist, Paul Cardall!

Paul, though I’m just learning of him today, is an internationally known pianist whose music is creating peace for people of all ages & walks of life.

After being the recipient of a heart transplant in 2009, he decided to stray away from the norm. Instead of creating music for the sake of elevating himself, he stated that his primary goal is: “to create music that helps soften and heal the heart.”

Paul’s goal is not only to be selfless, but also dutiful of him considering what he has been through in his personal life. Mr. Cardall was essentially born with half a heart and after several surgeries and struggle, he underwent a transplant.

maxresdefaultHow amazing is he?!

A lot of people sing about love and love lost and being lost in love, but the heart is not scientifically what controls your passion for others. You and I both know that the heart is used to represent what your soul does. It is a made-up representation of an intangible piece of you. Your soul (who you really are) will remain unchanged after a heart operation…so I think 🙂

Paul was able to maintain his spirit and his innate will to give back to others. He’s a person I would consider to be a hero. He’s an inspiration because music does heal. Even according to a recent study by McGill University they found that: “Music boosts the body’s immune system and is more effective than prescription drugs in reducing anxiety.”

music_heals_every_heart_by_ClaudiaRAWRBetter than prescription drugs?! Alright!!! 😀

“Out of the pain, you’re able to create…and find your purpose,” said Paul. For him, music is a source of healing all on its own.

Our friend Paul has made his mission to be a champion for health by way of healing music. As he describes: “It’s healthy music for a healthy lifestyle. If you want to feel good, this is what you listen to.”

Take a listen to “Israel, Israel God is Calling”:

Paul’s music is a beacon of hope for those who struggle with depression as he himself is struggling with chronic depression. He plays music that is every bit as healing for you & I as it is for him, and that I can deeply appreciate.

> For more info about Paul, check out his website at <

Thank you Paul for making a difference in peoples’ lives with your music. The size of your heart never depleted the love you chose to share.

I love stories like Paul’s and I too believe that music heals!

SoundCloudify for Google Chrome rocks!

I’m always looking for new ways that technology & music merge…

…and today I’m just hearing about a program called SoundCloudify

I’m yet another consumer of music just like you, I love SoundCloud and I love Spotify! I’m a premium subscriber of Spotify for 9.99/month and I have a SoundCloud account that I use frequently to listen to/discover new music!

With that being said, I was very intrigued as I was researching the latest music news today by the word “SoundCloudify”!

It was obvious to me, a professional word creator, what programs they were using by the merger of the words they used.

SoundCloud + Spotify = SoundCloudify

The internet browser that I use to write every single blog post that I write is Google Chrome. I’ve been a supporter of Google since forever and if I had a dollar for every Google search I’ve ever made…I’d be well off 😉

google_chromeGoogle Chrome is the best!

I bring up Chrome because SoundCloudify is a plug-in for it! So if you download SoundCloudify like I just did, you will see this next to your address bar:

Screen Shot 2015-05-27 at 8.26.27 AMClick on those green sound waves to open SCify!

SoundCloud and YouTube are the sources used to find the music that you search for! Sorry to say that Spotify is not used here, but nonetheless, the developer used part of their name to get noticed which I can’t blame him for.

The plug-in is free and I love that you can use it to search for not only songs on SoundCloud, but that it will find music videos for songs on YouTube for you as well. I love how it’s a one-stop shop for the song/music you’re looking for!

Now yes I get that iTunes/Google Play/Amazon is awesome because you can buy the music you want and such, but what about songs that aren’t on iTunes and a music video search? Well you need YouTube AND SoundCloud for those purposes, y’all! 😀

In Google Chrome, go here to get SCify: []

I’m excited about this new music player & I can’t wait to explore it!

Carrie Underwood will perform during CMA Fest!

The rumor mill was churning yesterday that an artist was going to be…

…added to CMA Fest 2015 & now we know it’s Carrie Underwood!

Carrie is a phenomenal artist. I’ve been following her brand for a long time and her music is stellar, in my honest opinion.

CMA Music Festival is huge and happens every year in June right here in good ol’ Nashville, Tennessee. The festival lasts for a long weekend from Thursday to Sunday and this year the days fall on June 11-14!

On Saturday night, Carrie Underwood will take the stage! That was just announced by the country music diva TODAY on Twitter!

What a fun way to announce an appearance! #Sunglasses

Now granted, it’s not that Carrie has never been allowed at CMA Fest! She actually did a duet with Miranda Lambert last year for their very first duet “Somethin’ Bad”! I looove when they perform that song together!

Here’s that amazing performance:

In February, Carrie gave birth to her very first child…a boy named Isaiah Michael, with her hockey husband, Nashville Predators player Mike Fisher!

isaiah-michael-fisherHe’s already playing hockey! 😀

Her first televised performance since the birth of her son will take place on June 10th at the CMT Music Awards! I absolutely love that show and I can’t wait to see Carrie sing again!

And did you know Carrie has a new single out?! Listen to “Little Toy Guns”:

Per usual CU song, I LOVE IT!

Congrats to Carrie for getting a full set on the main stage at LP Field for CMA Fest 2015! I really am excited for country music fans from all over the world to see her perform live!

Best of luck Carrie at CMA Fest & I can’t wait for your next album!

Rihanna will release album when she ‘believes in it’!

Rihanna is one of my favorite artists in the world and in today’s news…

Screen Shot 2015-05-25 at 8.34.11 PM

…she’s holding off on the release of her next album!

Nobody likes to wait! I know, I know! I fall prey to this so much and I have to catch myself. Patience is a virtue but sometimes you just can’t stand it HAHA Rihanna’s music is one of those things I don’t like to wait for, but I will try to be patient and not think about the time in between albums 😀

I’ve been hearing the reports that RiRi’s 8th studio album is going to be different than what we’ve ever heard before, but now I’m hearing that she’s not certain on the album title or release date yet!

Her album should be wonderful considering that she’s working with some top collaborators…famous DJs and just this last week she was seen leaving a recording studio with Drake!

He’s so in love with her it’s ridiculous! As seen here:

What a gorgeous music video, by the way!

So now comes the wait of all waits! Rihanna keeps describing her new sound as her take on creating ‘timeless music’ that is experimental and pleasantly undefined. I love Rihanna as you may have guessed and as a proud member of her fan group, Rihanna Navy, I know that her songs over the years that were experimental (“Disturbia”, “Diamonds”, “Where Have You Been”, and “FourFiveSeconds” among many others) were some of my absolute favorites!

If her latest single “American Oxygen” is any indicator of how her new album is going to sound…boy, is it gonna be good!!!

This is such an interesting song both lyrically & musically:

Last Sunday (May 17th), Rihanna herself has a Twitter convo with a fan in which she revealed that she won’t release the album ’til I believe in it’!

CFuJUybWAAADnNMI love that she direct messages her fans back! OMG!!!

At any rate, I cannot wait to her Rihanna’s new album! I so enjoyed the last one and I’ve been a big fan of hers for so long!

Congrats Rihanna on your new album & let us hear it when you’re ready!
