I’ve been watching Mariah Carey closely since her new album flopped and now…
…she fired her manager, Jermaine Dupri!!!
I know Jermaine has been a staple in the Hip Hop/R&B music scene for years and years, but I didn’t know that he was managing Mariah…”was” being the key word 😉
I’ve always been a fan of Mariah Carey’s voice and her music, but can I just say that “Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse” is not only an album with the longest title, but it’s an album that I didn’t particularly enjoy listening to. I gave it a shot, but I got bored with it…and it was MARIAH CAREY!!!

I don’t mean to throw shade at the Queen of Divas, but I’m just amazed at how they gave her the bottom of the pile when it came to songs for The Elusive Chanteuse. When I heard the song “Thirsty”, I thought she didn’t get very good songs! HAHA
Mariah made a record for herself as the longest time between two projects with The Elusive Chanteuse not being released until almost 5 years after 2009’s “Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel”! That’s not the kind of record that artists like to set for themselves, but I respect that MC took time off to raise her twins Monroe & Moroccan.

But anyways, “Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse” was released on May 27th, 2014 and has reportedly sold under 100,000 copies!!! So really, it’s no wonder that Jermaine Dupri was given the boot!!

In a statement to Billboard, Jermaine said: “I’m a very hands-on person when it comes to my work. I put my all into every project. But when I’m not allowed to do what I do, then I know it’s time for me to move on. Mariah and I enjoy working together and will continue to make great music together in the future.”

Mariah has had so many managers in her career that I can barely keep track! First off was Randy Hoffman through the 1980’s and all the way through 1997! Then it was a brief stint with Sandy Gallin.
The real heavy hitters came for Mariah in the 2000’s when she was managed by Benny Medina (Jennifer Lopez’ current manager), the late Chris Lighty, Randy Jackson/Irving Azoff, Bruce Eskowitz, and of course…Jermaine Dupri!
She should’ve stayed with Benny! #JustSayin
Mariah is a mover and a shaker so certainly she has already moved on to a new manager…Kevin Liles! Nothing is official or in ink between Mimi and the former president of Def Jam (the top hip hop record label) but I’m sure they will be signing a contract soon!
