It’s awesome to discover a new artist when you go to a concert…
…and that’s exactly how I discovered Mikey Wax
I went to see one of my very own discover bands, The Gallery, play at Exit/In and the first person to hit the stage that night to warm up the crowd was Mikey!
He spent his set playing beautiful melodies on his keyboard and lending wonderful lyrics to each song! So naturally I was hooked from the start and very impressed with the music he shared with us! That show was on August 20th so I’m glad to be able to write about him 2 months later and get the word out about his exciting new tour plans! 🙂
I went to meet Mikey after his set at the merch table where I ended up buying his CDs that he signed for me and he threw in a cool wristband for my trouble haha He was so kind and we exchanged business cards so that I could contact him for to write this blog post to share his music with all of you!

Mr. Wax attended Nashville’s own Vanderbilt University which is where he focused on honing his skills as a singer/songwriter. He released his debut album “Change Again” independently in 2009!

What’s most interesting about Mikey is that he hasn’t been pursuing a music career for much longer than 5 years, but he’s had so much success! “Change Again” received attention on social media, so much so that his music video for “In Case I Go Again” was featured on YouTube’s homepage! And to top it all off, his debut album caught the eye of Superbowl MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers who publicly said that Mikey Wax was a top artist on his playlist!
That is TOO cool!
And if that wasn’t cool enough for you…Mikey’s song “In Case I Go Again” was on…
Pretty Little Liars!
So he basically did all anyone could hope to do with a debut album! It got a lot of attention to say the least and was also featured during the Summer Olympics in London back in 2012!
Mikey’s second album was independently released in September 2011!

Mikey’s fans got the album to #6 on the singer/songwriter chart on iTunes and his single “Counting On You” was featured on So You Think You Can Dance as the elimination song! I love that show so much! I don’t know whether to be more excited about his song being in that show or in Pretty Little Liars! HAHA

2014 has been a busy year for Mikey who just released his self-titled debut album as a signed artist on June 10th which debuted in the Top 100 albums on iTunes!

His single “You Lift Me Up” has been streamed on Spotify over 4 million times!

Mikey has performed alongside Parachute, Matt Wertz, Howie Day, Jon McLaughlin, Andy Grammer, Tony Lucca, Ryan Cabrera, Tyler Hilton, Graham Colton and Landon Pigg…to name a few!
I’m so proud of Mikey so without further ado, let’s get to our interview:
1) When did you first find yourself interested in music?
I was around 8 years old when I started playing piano. My dad was a piano player and I remember being fascinated by his ability to play. He taught me my first song and I fell in love with playing so I kept pursuing it.
He started piano early! 😀
2) How long have you been pursuing a career in music?
Technically since I was 8! Ha. But I released my first “real” album in 2009 have been touring and releasing albums since then.
3) What is your hometown?
Oyster Bay, NY.

4) Were you ever in any bands?
Yes, two. In high school I was in a jam band called Burnt Toast and Jam. The name still makes me laugh. In college I was in a more serious band called Heroes For Nothing. We had some really good songs but all went our separate ways after graduation.

5) What do you wish to accomplish with your music?
I just want to reach as many people with my music as possible and hopefully have that human connection.
I love that plan so much!
6) How would you describe your sound?
I feel like being a songwriter first I have a lot of different sounds. Overall I’d say my music is pretty honest and heartfelt pop music.
